[Announcement, 2/17/21] A New Series and the Schedule Moving Forward

Hey folks, it’s the OSG team here! Just wanted to keep you all in the loop as to what’s going on behind the scenes at On Second Glance!

  • The End of Essay Set 1:
    • As of today, we’ve published the last of Set 1 of our long-form essays! Written largely in 2020, this set of essays was a bit of an experiment where we tried to figure out our style and format. We couldn’t be happier with the results and hope you’ve enjoyed this series of essays as well!
  • A New Series:
    • What do you get when you take Romeo and Juliet, turn the violence and sexual innuendo up to 11, and add a dash of incest for taste? The answer is ‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore. This new series, A ‘Tis Pity 360, is going to be analyzing John Ford’s masterpiece ‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore. This series will differ from our series of long-form essays as the essays will be shorter and focus more heavily on the techniques/vectors of analysis. But don’t worry, we’ll go plenty deep into all the gory details of TPSW!
  • A Scheduling Update:
    • In order to ensure all of our content is of the highest quality, our long-form essays will return to a bi- or tri-weekly publishing schedule. But fear not! This will be supplemented by our A ‘Tis Pity 360 series, so you’ll still be getting content weekly!
  • A Sneak Peek at Essay Set 2:
    • What does an Arabic Netflix series and a classic anime have to do with cross-cultural intelligibility? If he were alive today, what would Marx would say about the Borderlands universe? And how do we reconcile ideas of law and territoriality with nomadic populations? These and many more questions will be addressed in Set 2 of On Second Glance’s long-form essays!

And as always, make sure to subscribe here to make sure you never miss content or updates from On Second Glance!
